Were you assigned meaningful projects that helped you gain experience right out of school?
When I first started I was given projects to enhance business processes and even create new ones that add value to the company. Through the course of my research I was able to gain an in depth understanding of the various roles and functions of my team. Once I obtained that knowledge I was able to use the critical thinking skills learned in college to identify inefficient processes and suggest improvements that my supervisor implemented. I was also pulled into larger projects that required the effort of multiple team members that gave me valuable experience in both establishing personal relationships and working in a team environment.
What is it like to work at Integrys?
Integrys has a workforce that values integrity, honesty, and character. Therefore the work environment is very open and friendly. This atmosphere enables employees to ask questions and raise concerns about their job, career, or personal life without fear of negative repercussions. Career advancement at Integrys depends solely on individual performance as there aren't any limiting demographic barriers. Integrys also offers incentives to advancing your career such as MBA tuition reimbursement.
Name one reason you decided to work for Integrys.
The deciding factor that made me choose to stay with Integrys after my internship ended was how fast the company was growing, especially on the unregulated side. I was very intrigued by the volitility and infancy of the unregulated energy industry and wanted to be a part of its growth.
Do you have any advice for soon to be graduates and prospective employees?
Graduating from college yet having no idea about what career you want to pursue is a bad situation that can be easily avoided. I would encourage students to try multiple internships in a variety of disciplines to find their niche before graduation. The benefits of this process are numerous. The experience gained looks great on a resume. The variety of work enables the student to learn about themselves in terms of what type of work he or she enjoys. The student also gets paid to do it. My internship gave me the chance to discover an exciting career that I would not have known about just by using the college's career services department.
