Summer Student/Year Round Student Employment
Summer/year round student positions are intended to provide temporary summer resources to Business Units. They also provide financial assistance and work experience to students pursuing technical, associate, bachelor, or master degrees.
What is a Summer/Year Round Student?
A summer/year round student is a student who does not necessarily work in their field of study. They typically do clerical/administrative or labor type work.
Summer student positions are posted in mid-December through the end of January. A summer student works for 3-4 months during the summer.
Year round student positions are posted as they become available and the student works a pre-determined number of hours weekly while attending school. They are usually employed for the entire 12 months of the year.
Requirements the student must meet to be considered for employment:
Student eligibility is based on a number of documents that will be required as a part of the selection and continued performance management process including, but not limited to: unofficial transcripts submitted at least annually, application data, and any medical/physical testing documented results.
- Students must be enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a technical, associate, bachelor, or master degree.
NOTE: Full-time is defined as 12 credits per semester for undergraduate study and 9 credits per semester for graduate study. - Students must maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 grade scale.
- Students must be age 17 or older, a high school graduate, or GED/HSED, and continuing post-high school education.
NOTE: Child labor laws will apply to those less than 18 years - Students must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis.
- Students must be eligible for rehire if they are returning students.
- Students must meet the guidelines as addressed in the Employment of Relatives (Nepotism) policy.
NOTE: One child per family may be hired for summer or year round student employment. - Students must successfully complete a drug screen, background check and physical testing as a part of the selection process.
- Students' eligibility for employment is based on ongoing performance. Participation in this program is considered employment at will.
- The maximum number of summers/years that a student can be employed is four.
