Peoples Gas is a premier sponsor of the Museum of Science and Industry's Smart Home in Chicago. The utility's customers benefit from discounted admission to the exhibit.
Living out a concern for the environment begins most easily with our immediate surroundings: our homes and our businesses. Here are two ways Integrys companies are focusing on efforts "closest to home":
- Peoples Gas encourages homeowners to conserve energy. The company partnered with Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry to present the Smart Home. This "green home" is a fully functioning three-story modular home that demonstrates how we can improve energy efficiency in our lives. Natural gas from Peoples Gas is used in the Smart Home's radiant space heating, hot water heating, oven and clothes dryer. Since not everyone can visit the home, Peoples Gas is sharing tips on how to live green and make a difference; tips are available to all of the utility's customers and to visitors to peoplesgasdelivery.com.
- In January, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin approved a request by Wisconsin Public Service to build a new operations center in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. The utility is now designing the building. It will be certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a program of the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED program seeks human and environmental health, sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
