Wisconsin River Power's Electric Generator Arrived at Petenwell Dam

Green Bay, WI - Last week, a 205-foot long truck with more than 20 axles arrived at the site of the Wisconsin River Power Company (WRPC) hydroelectric dam on the Wisconsin River at the Petenwell Flowage near Necedah, WI. On the truck was WRPC's new 15-megawatt generator and some ancillary items.

Officials of Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corporation (NYSE: WPS) and the operators of Wisconsin River Power Company, previously announced the new generator late last year. The generator will be used to increase electric reliability in the area when it operates during periods of high electric use.

The output of the "peaking" generator will be divided between Wisconsin Public Service and Alliant Energy, co-owners of Wisconsin River Power Company.

"It's finally here," said Gerry Ganther, WRPC Hydro Supervisor, who expected delivery earlier in October. "There were a couple of delays because the delivery truck is so long it needed a police escort, and it got hung up in Chicago for a couple of days.

"But it's here now, and we should be operational by the end of 2002."

The addition of the oil-fired combustion turbine brings Wisconsin River Power Company's generating capacity to just over 50 megawatts, enough energy to serve about 25,000 homes.
