North Shore Gas Hosts 7th Annual Team H.E.A.T. and Community Resource Assistance Fair

Events help residents prepare for winter

Chicago, IL – After a week of unseasonably warm weather, colder temperatures are expected to arrive this weekend. To help residents prepare, North Shore Gas will host two major events on Saturday, November 13 as part of its community outreach efforts to provide customers with information to stay safe and warm as winter approaches.

The first event, the company’s 7th Annual Team H.E.A.T. (Home Energy Assistance Together), will take place at North Shore Gas Headquarters, 3001 Grand in Waukegan from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Team H.E.A.T. is a home weatherization project to help low- and fixed-income families reduce energy use and costs.

More than 30 volunteers will help approximately 25 families get a jump on winter. The volunteers, including employees from North Shore Gas, their families and friends, and members of community organizations, will team up to apply plastic sheeting on windows and weather stripping and caulking around doors and windows.

North Shore Gas will also provide the homeowners with winter preparation and safety packages, which include the following items to be used in the homes:

  • Carbon monoxide detector, courtesy of FIRST ALERT.
  • Window insulation kit, courtesy of 3M.
  • Information about conservation, managing energy costs and seeking financial assistance to help with energy bills.

Also on Saturday, the company will join the Community Action Partnership of Lake County (CAP) in hosting a Community Resource Assistance Fair. Representatives from North Shore Gas, CAP, ComEd, Catholic Charities and the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will be on site at CAP’s offices, 1200 W. Glen Flora in Waukegan from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. to provide information on financial resources and programs available to assist customers. In addition, representatives from the townships of Wauconda, Waukegan and Zion will be in attendance to provide information on emergency assistance.

At the Community Resource Assistance Fair, North Shore Gas customers can sign up for Budget Billing, and CAP will accept applications for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) grants. The program provides grants to help customers pay outstanding bills, reconnect service and maintain their home’s natural gas service. Customers may be eligible for a grant if their income is 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

To apply for LIHEAP, customers must have proof of household income for the last 30 days, a copy of their current utility bill and Social Security numbers for everyone in the household. North Shore Gas customers can call the Community Action Partnership of Lake County at 1-847-249-4330. Customers can also visit for a list of application sites and guidelines, as well as for tips on keeping warm, energy conservation and options for managing their energy bills.
