People Gas Hosts Heating Fair at Casa Central to Help Customers Prepare for Winter Heating Needs

Chicago, IL – Colder temperatures may have arrived to stay, but the good news is that Peoples Gas is hosting the first of several community outreach events to help residents prepare for winter. On Saturday, November 10, Peoples Gas is partnering with the community organization, Casa Central, in hosting a heating fair to help residents get a jump on winter.

The heating fair will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Casa Central, 1343 N. California Avenue. Peoples Gas, along with representatives from the Community Economic Development Association (CEDA) the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) and human service agencies like Catholic Charities will be on site to provide information on financial resources and programs that are available, answer questions and assist residents in applying for programs.

"Attending the heating fair is a good way to start planning for winter," said Adrienne M. Jones, director, Government Affairs. "Residents can find out what resources are available to assist them, review their Peoples Gas accounts and set up budget payment plans to help them manage their financial resources more efficiently."

The heating fair is being held as follows:

Date Location Time
Sat., Nov. 10 Casa Central – 1343 N. California Avenue 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

In addition, representatives from Franklin Energy will be on site to provide information on the Peoples Gas Natural Gas Savings Program which offers incentives for energy-saving upgrades to help customers better manage their energy bills. Now though November 30, 2012, owners of single-family homes and smaller multi-family buildings can get twice the normal rebates offered when they install certain types of energy-saving products.

During the heating fair, CEDA will accept applications from customers who are eligible to apply for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) grants if their income is 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines as follows:

Family Income Guidelines
Size of Family 30 Days Income
1 $1,396
2 $1,891
3 $2,386
4 $2,881
5 $3,376
