LIHEAP and Share the Warmth Funds Still Available

Peoples Gas Urges Customers to Apply for Assistance if Needed

Chicago, IL – Peoples Gas says there are still funds available through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the company's Share the Warmth program to assist residents who are struggling financially with this season's heating bills. LIHEAP is a federally-funded program that provides grants to help customers pay toward outstanding bills, reconnect natural gas service and maintain their home's service. Share the Warmth is an energy assistance program that provides matching grants of up to $200 to qualifying residents. The program is funded through donations from Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas, their employees and customers. The utility is encouraging residents to apply for both programs to see if they meet the eligibility criteria before funds run out.

Residents whose income is at or below 200% of the poverty level are eligible to apply for a Share the Warmth grant. LIHEAP is open to residents whose income is at or below 150% of the poverty level as shown on the following chart:

Family Income Guidelines
Size of Family 30 Days Income
1 $1,396
2 $1,891
3 $2,386
4 $2,881
5 $3,376
6 $3,871

LIHEAP is based on a customer's last 30 days of income. Customers, who have already received a LIHEAP grant, may also be eligible to receive a Share the Warmth grant. Customers should bring the following documents with them when applying for either program:

  • Proof of gross income from all household members for the last 30 days
  • Copy of most recent utility bill
  • Proof of Social Security Numbers for all household members.
  • A Medical Eligibility Card for any household member receiving TANF; and
