Minnesota Energy Resources Announces "It's Worth the Energy" Grant Winners for 2013

Rosemount, MN - Minnesota Energy Resources has announced the three winners in their "It's Worth the Energy" Grant Opportunity program. The program is funded by the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation – see its description following this release.

1st Place - Headwaters Science Center, Bemidji - $3,000 to support science outreach programs for pre-school through middle school students whose school districts have limited transportation funds for field trips. This will enable more students to travel to and get actual hands on field experience at the highly acclaimed Headwaters Science Center.

2nd Place - The Boys & Girls Club and Child Care Resource Referral partnership, Rochester- $2,000 to build a new space in Rochester to support youth ages birth to 18. Child Care Resource and Referral will use the facility during the day with the Boys and Girls Club using the space in the evening, adding to the operating efficiency for both organizations as well as doubling their capacity to serve kids.

3rd Place - 360 Communities, Burnsville - $1,000 to stock food shelves and support family resource centers for people who suddenly find themselves in crisis and to link them to food and basic needs resources in the areas of Burnsville, Apple Valley, Farmington, Lakeville and Rosemount. The expectation is to serve and assist about 11,000 people in 2013.

Organizations were encouraged to submit proposals for projects that improve the community in one of three areas: Environment, Community or Human Services. The top three projects, selected by an independent panel of judges, were voted on by visitors to the Minnesota Energy Resources' Facebook page during the month of September.
