Peoples Gas Urges Customers to Apply for LIHEAP Assistance

General Enrollment Period Opens on November 1

Chicago, IL – It may still be fall according to the calendar, but the unseasonable drop in temperatures for the past two weeks has furnaces clicking on all over town. As residents prepare for what could be a long winter season, Peoples Gas wants customers to know that the general enrollment application period for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) opens on November 1.

LIHEAP is a federally-funded program that provides grants to help customers pay outstanding energy bills, reconnect natural gas service and maintain their home's gas service. 2 $1,939
3 $2,441
4 $2,944
5 $3,446
6 $3,949

To qualify for the rebate, the tune-up must be performed by a professional HVAC technician and cover all items listed on the checklist located at peoplesgasrebates.com. The Home Energy Rebate Program also provides rebates for a wide range of other energy improvements to Peoples Gas customers who own single-family homes, two-flats or individually-metered condos, apartments or townhomes.

For instance, customers who replace their old furnace with a new high-efficiency model of 97% AFUE or greater qualify for a $600 rebate. And replacement boilers of 95% AFUE or greater qualify for a $700 rebate.
