Congressman Danny K. Davis joined Peoples Gas and CEDA to host Winter Resource Fair to help Chicago residents

Millions available in Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Share the Warmth funds

U.S. House of Representatives

CHICAGO – Congressman Danny K. Davis joined Peoples Gas and CEDA (Community Economic Development Association) today to host its 12th annual Winter Resource Fair at Mark T. Skinner Classical School, 1260 W. Adams St., on the city’s west side.

“We have been conducting the Winter Resource Fair for more than 10 years with great success,” said congressman Davis. “This year could be one of the most critical. Once the money which funds this program runs out there may not be another opportunity to receive this type of help this heating season. I urge anyone in need of gas or electric assistance to come to the fair and apply.”

Hundreds of Chicago residents benefited from personalized, face-to-face interaction with nearly 20 local vendors that provided information on energy and financial assistance, including Peoples Gas, CEDA and ComEd. A number of city, state and human services agencies also were present to assist customers with other resources.

“We understand that times can be tough for our customers, especially during the cold winter months,” said Michelle Rindt, vice president - customer service, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. “That’s why we have funds available through the Peoples Gas Share the Warmth financial assistance program. Peoples Gas is encouraging residents to apply for LIHEAP and Share the Warmth to help eligible customers pay for their natural gas bills and stay warm this winter.”

Eligible residents worked with CEDA to apply for LIHEAP and the Peoples Gas Share the Warmth program. Customers also learned about Peoples Gas’ energy efficiency programs and rebates for high-efficiency products, as well as signed up for Home Energy Jumpstart, which provides free, energy-saving products such as programmable thermostats, showerheads, faucet aerators, pipe insulation, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and smart power strips.

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that provides grants to help customers pay toward their energy bills, reconnect natural gas service and maintain their home’s gas service. Share the Warmth is an energy assistance program funded through generous donations from Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas, their employees and customers. It provides matching grants of up to $200 to qualifying customers.

Both LIHEAP and Share the Warmth are administered in Cook County by CEDA. LIHEAP is open to residents whose income is at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level. Residents whose income is at or below 200 percent of the poverty level are eligible to apply for a Share the Warmth matching grant as shown below:

LIHEAP Maximum Incomes Share the Warmth Maximum Income
