Peregrine Falcon Banding
Green Bay, WI – The Wisconsin Public Service Corporation J. P. Pulliam Plant’s newest Peregrine chicks are ready to make their debut. That's right—the Peregrine Falcon chicks are now three weeks old and ready for banding.
All four of the eggs produced a Peregrine chick, born three weeks ago in a nest atop the plant. Thanks to area school children, the chicks now all have names: "Lisa", "Cazadora", "Madison" and "Thunder". They will go through official registration and banding on Thursday, May 21, at 2:00 PM.
Media representatives interested in observing this event may gather at the Pulliam Plant security building located at 1530 North Bylsby Avenue, Green Bay, by 1:45 PM. From there, guests will be escorted inside the plant.
The contest winners and their families have been invited to take part, along with Peregrine Researcher and President of the Wisconsin Peregrine Trust, Greg Septon. Greg will start the banding process with some brief background on the falcons. From there, it’s up and out to the Pulliam rooftop where the chicks will be removed from their nesting box and brought back down to a conference room for their debut. This will be a rather quick process, as we want to keep their out-of-nest time to a minimum.
This is a great photo opportunity with the contest winners and the new baby chicks.
Following the banding, Mr. Septon will answer questions about the Peregrine, an endangered species that is making a comeback. The entire process should only take one hour.
