Taking it outdoors, be safe, be smart!
Electric Safety Reminders from Wisconsin Public Service
Wisconsin Public Service reminds its electric customers to keep "electric safety" in mind when working and enjoying the outdoors as nice weather approaches.
- Before any underground digging, call 811 to find the location of underground natural gas, electric lines or other utility services. Or, in Wisconsin call Diggers Hotline, 800-242-8511, or in Michigan call 800-482-7171 for locates.
- Keep kites or flying objects away from electric lines. If anything becomes entangled in electric lines, contact WPS. Do not try to remove it.
- Stay away from green electric transformer boxes that house underground electrical service.
- Stay out of trees located near power lines.
- Don't play ball, toss frisbees, or play games in which objects can be thrown, kicked or batted into electric substations. NEVER try to retrieve an object from a substation. Call WPS instead.
- Keep ladders and scaffolds far away from power lines.
- Look up and always check for overhead lines before starting a project.
- Swimming pools should not be installed or placed beneath electric lines.
- Don't use electrical tools in the rain or while standing on wet surfaces. Make certain hands are dry before using electrical tools and appliances.
- Make sure power tools are grounded and well maintained and their electrical cords and extension cords are in good condition.
- USE SAFETY COMMON SENSE DURING ALL OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES.
