Chilton High School is Going Solar!
The Media is invited to witness the installation of solar-electric panels on the roof of CHILTON HIGH SCHOOL on AUGUST 25, 2009. The panels are part of a two-kilowatt solar-electric system being installed at the school. It will provide enough electricity to power three classrooms, which amounts to approximately $200 in energy savings per year to the school. In addition to the solar panels, the school was awarded a three-week renewable energy curriculum to be integrated into the science curriculum. Students and teachers can access data from the solar-electric system via the Internet and use the information in classroom projects throughout the year.
The solar-electric system was donated to the school by WPS Community Foundation as part of the SolarWise® for Schools program. This program is funded by donations from 3,200 Wisconsin Public Service customers, as well as state grants. See the attached for more information about the program. The best opportunity for photos or on-site interviews will be at 11:00 a.m. on AUGUST 25, 2009. The school is located at 530 W. Main Street, Chilton, WI 53014. Please check in at the main office and from there we can proceed to the school roof to view the installation of the solar panels. A dedication of the new solar-electric system is being planned for Thursday, October 15, 2009. Students, staff and the public will be invited to attend. More information will follow about that day's events.
