WPS to Upgrade Electric Line from Weston to Mosinee Area

Wausau, WI – Wisconsin Public Service will be working in the right-of-way of an electric transmission line running about 7 miles from the Weston Plant to the Kronen substation just south of Mosinee. The work has already begun, but it is currently taking place on the Weston Power Plant grounds.

The company expects to begin performing some pole and conductor replacement along the line in the coming days. Overall, the project will likely continue until the first quarter of 2010. You can expect up to 10 crew members and five to six trucks working in the transmission corridor at any given time – generally during regular business hours with some weekend work a possibility.

The work is needed because the transmission line was initially erected in 1932. Poles need replacing and because of technology advances, some equipment on the poles will be replaced as well. The upgrades will substantially improve the reliability of the transmission line.
