OSHA Agreement Signed at Weston Power Plant
(Wausau, Wis.) -- With a strong concern for worker safety, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, contractors and agencies working to construct the new Weston 4 Power Plant, today signed an agreement with OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The OSHA Partnership demonstrates the value of cooperation amongst employers, trade unions, workers and other stakeholders and also emphasizes a collaborative effort at resolving any safety issues as they arise.
“Safety on the job has always been an important emphasis in all our operations,” said Kelly Zagrzebski, spokesperson for Wisconsin Public Service. “This partnership will help us identify potential hazards and establish effective safety management systems, as we work in a cooperative mode with OSHA.” Zagrzebski added that OSHA will be a visible partner in this project and they bring a wealth of safety knowledge that will assist in all aspects of safety.
The partners have agreed upon individual responsibilities and identified strategies to meet the established goals and performance measures as they relate to all aspects of safety. The OSHA Partnership is a growing program in the U.S. In 2004, OSHA signed 57 Partnerships and, thus far in 2005, 48 new Partnerships have been reached.
All of the core elements of the partnership have been worked out. Today, the final signatures made the Partnership official. Howard B. Eberts, Assistant Regional Administrator for Cooperative and State Programs for OSHA; Greg Jones, Safety and Buildings Administrator for the Department of Commerce, representing Wisconsin Governor Doyle and Charlie Schrock, President/Chief Operating Officer of Generation at Wisconsin Public Service signed the agreement in a ceremony at the Weston 4 construction site. Wisconsin Public Service is building the Weston 4 Power Plant south of Wausau and expects to have the electric generating power plant operating in 2008.
