Rochester LEED Building
The environmentally friendly building will bring all operations processes under one roof.
Minnesota Energy Resources Corp. is building a new facility on Technology Drive in northwest Rochester, MN.
The new building will allow for the combination of the company’s Rochester office, warehouse, and Kasson work center into one building, resulting in improved efficiency and reduced operating costs. Groundbreaking took place on June 19, 2008, and the building is expected to be completed by December 2008.
The company previously reached agreement to sell its downtown office building to the City of Rochester on January 1, 2009. The leases for the warehouse and Kasson building will not be renewed.
"The timing for this move was just impeccable," said Stan Shreve, MERC operations manager in Rochester. "The city was interested in our downtown building and we really needed to look to combine our operations into one facility. We should be out of our old offices and into the new building just about the time we close the sale."
The new 17,000-square-foot building will be constructed using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) philosophies. LEED is a rating system developed to assess the environmental sustainability of building designs. The company is striving for a LEED silver certification.
The architect for the project is TSP from Rochester. The General Contractor is Weiss Builders, Inc.
