Going Green! Wisconsin Valley Fair Grandstand Performances to be powered by WPS Renewable Energy

Wausau, WI - The grandstand performances at this year's Wisconsin Valley Fair will be using renewable energy to power the musical entertainment during the six days (August 3-8) of the annual event at Marathon Park.

Fair organizers and Wisconsin Public Service have agreed to use renewable energy through the WPS NatureWise Program that has been selling blocks of renewable energy to customers since 2005.

"We're excited about this clean energy partnership," said Kelly Zagrzebski of Wisconsin Public Service. "This is a great annual event we all look forward to and we are glad we can power it using renewable energy through our NatureWise Program." NatureWise supports the generation of electricity from a blend of farm waste, wind turbines and biomass produced at landfills. "With the deep agricultural history associated with the fair, producing energy using farm waste and using it to power the fair fits nicely into the many farm related activities that will be taking place," added Zagrzebski.

The event brings about 20,000 to 25,000 fairgoers to Wausau each day, according to fair records.

"It's a progressive move on our part," said Lisa Kumfer, Wisconsin Valley Fair Administrator. "Using environmentally friendly electricity shows our commitment to ensuring Wausau stays a great place to live and work. We hope everyone has fun at the fair."
