Green Bay, WI - The winners of this year's Wisconsin Public Service Energy Challenge have been determined. Nineteen non-profit community service organizations completed the three required tasks in energy efficiency and weatherization during the three months of October, November and December.

The three month results showed a cumulative energy savings of nearly 17,000 kilowatt hours of electricity. (An average home uses about 600 kilowatt hours each month.) Participating organizations found that along with the decrease in energy use, a substantial increase in energy awareness was realized as minor lifestyle changes by each individual resulted in cumulative energy saving totals. This is the second year of the challenge.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed an online greenhouse gas equivalency calculator to help translate abstract numbers into easy to understand terms.
