Ishpeming, MI – Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is proud to be a contributing partner to the communities it serves. Through both the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, which supports UPPCO and Integrys Energy Group subsidiaries in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and UPPCO's own corporate giving program, nearly $130,000 was provided in 2012 (see following chart). The Foundation charitable giving has no impact on electric rates.
In all, UPPCO and the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation made contributions to nearly 120 qualifying organizations in the areas of Community and Neighborhood Development, Arts and Culture, Education, the Environment and Health and Human Services. Included in the contributions are gifts from employees matched by the Foundation and cash contributions earned as a result of employees volunteering.
In 2012 for example, UPPCO or the Foundation made donations to the Forsyth Township Historical Society Clock Tower Fund, the Michigan Tech Rozsa Center for Performing Arts, Iron Amateur Hockey Association, the City of Hancock Sesquicentennial Celebration, the Ishpeming Carnegie Library, Finnfest, the Iron River Rodeo and a host of other organizations, including the United Way.
"We're pleased to be able to help out," said Jodi Pineau, UPPCO Customer Operations Supervisor." These donations, as well as the volunteer hours our employees put in toward many different efforts, we think show the commitment of the company and its employees to our communities."
